Actress Gabrielle Union shares life’s love lessons from relationship to career

What are the 5 most important things you can do in a relationship?
1. Listen...you can't listen if you're always talking
2. Be affectionate...showing your love is most often appreciated and feels reassuring
3. Be clear about your wants, needs and expectations...remember no one is a mind reader
4. Share your world with your love without making your love your world
5. Smile and breathe and don't sweat the small stuff

What is the biggest lesson you have learned about love? From whom?
The biggest lesson I learned from love I learned from AJ Johnson when I was going through my divorce. She said, "How can you expect someone else to know how to make you happy when you don't know what makes YOU happy...you forgot to love yourself in your race to the alter.

How did you learn the art of loving yourself?
I learned the art of loving myself after years of tearing myself down with self doubt, insecurities, and fear of failure. I realized just being me makes me worthy and valid and that's enough.

How can a young girl learn to follow her heart and not be crushed every time...
A young girl has to learn that her "heart" might actually be dysfunctional childhood issues, insecurity or low self esteem screaming at her to make bad choices. Her heart, mind and soul will lead her in the right direction and if she's still unsure...inaction is the best course of action. You get no prizes for rushing into a bad decision.

How do you translate what you love to a career?
I found over time that I have a love of people, travel, adventure and artistic expression...a career in entertainment made perfect sense for me. Write down your loves and passions, do careful research about which careers encompass those passions and be ok with trying on different hats.
